Chlorine and Caustic Soda Production in Europe Has Declined

According to Eurochlor report, in July the manufacture of caustic soda in Europe declined by 6, 6% (192 thousand tonnes) comparably to the figures in July 2016 (204, 34 tonnes).   Within the first half of 2017 European caustic soda companies produced 1, 4 million tonnes (14% less than in 2016).

At times of the production decline, the consumption of caustic soda throughout and outside Europe is growing considerably. For instance, since January 2017, Russia has increased caustic soda consumption by 17%.

In July, Europe produced over 864 million tonnes of chlorine which is by 4, 3% more than in the same period of 2016 (828 million tonnes).  The July average daily output increased by 1, 1% compared to June. For today, the capacity utilization has reached its maximum since February 2016. As contrasted to 2016, this year average capacity utilization has grown by 3%.
